Gulf Marine of Clearwater is not just a local business–We’re people! We want you to know what we all do, and what makes us different. We truly consider our customers our friends.
Charlie has worked for Gulf marine of Clearwater since 1991 and has an extensive background in Evinrude and Johnson engine rebuilding. Charlie started at Gulf Marine when 2 older mechanics were on staff to teach him, including one technician who worked on Evinrude motors before World War II. With such knowledge, Charlie loves to instruct. Strangely, he does seem to end up with the cherry jobs- test rides and such. A little suspicious, under closer scrutiny.
Charlie is a certified Evinrude Technician, having attended Evinrude factory schools since 1993. Charlie repairs Johnson outboards, Evinrude Ficht motors, Evinrude Ocean Pro engines, Mercury outboards, Yamaha outboards, and used to service Force outboards when they were a market force (feel free to pick his brain on these). He is a Evinrude certified mechanic, and sells new trailers from Magic Tilt, Continental, Fast Load, and also sell used boat trailers.
Charlie has been lucky to deal with most of Gulf Marine of Clearwater’s customer base. Forget his name? Just think of Charlie Brown.
Jed talks like Boomhauer on “KING of the HILL”. Get this guy on the phone you’ll know what we mean. Don’t be misled. He is talent in a can. Jed’s job duties include fiberglass repairs, transom repairs, scratched boat repairs, hull damage repairs, boat painting, boat decals, outboard motor painting, Johnson outboard painting, Evinrude motor painting, Yamaha motor painting, custom outboard motor painting, installing Evinrude decals, Johnson decals, Mercury decals, HydraSports decals, Boston Whaler decals, Grady White decals, Aquasports decals, Mako decals, Sea Fox decals, Shamrock decals, Sea Pro decals, Proline decals, and all things colorful. Jed has graduated trade school for auto body repair, but applies his skill to boat painting including non skid-painting, bottom painting, and outdrive painting. Jed has lived his entire life in the Tampa Bay area, and now lives in Clearwater. Or so he says. We all suspect he is a powerful knight capable manipulating “The Force” — so we call him…Return of the Jed.
Lori has a talent for picking out gifts for friends, and a generous heart. She knows most of our customers by name, as she has worked at Gulf Marine of Clearwater most of her adult life. She used to not like cats–until she got one, and she often threatens to run off to Tahiti when times get tough.
Lori is the face people most associate with Gulf Marine of Clearwater. She knows volumes about Evinrude and Johnson outboard parts, Sierra parts, OMC Stern Drive parts, Evinrude E-Tec warranty service, outboard service,, general outboard repair, boating accessories, coast guard equipment, small engine parts, and obsolete Evinrude parts – just try her wealth of knowledge and you’ll see what we mean.
Lori is good at locating used Evinrude, Johnson, Yamaha, Mercury, and Yamaha parts, gear cases both new and used, powerheads new and rebuilt, BRP parts, and is a certified Parts Pro thru Bombardier. Lori has distributed parts from Clearwater and Dunedin all the way to the Florida keys. Whatever you need, we’re confident our Lorax can help you get it.
Fun fact: We nicknamed her after the classic Dr. Suess character, The Lorax, and sometimes wears Lorax clothing!
Nguu (pronounced noo, like new car) has worked for Gulf Marine of Clearwater since 1990. He-s ex-navy, worked in quality control at Wellcraft boats, and nearly died as a young man when his ship was sunk during the Vietnam war and he spent several days ship wrecked. No joke.
Nguu enjoys time with his wife and nephew, and likes flea markets. He is a great negotiator at the flea market. “Holy Moses! I not pay that! ” he yells in his still thick Vietnamese accent. Nguu does the majority of the engine installations. He also installs Teleflex hydraulic steering systems, Bennett trim tabs, Teleflex gauges, Evinrude I-Conn controls, I-Conn gauges, Faria gauges, Ac-Delco batteries, dual battery systems, ship to shore power systems, pre-owned Evinrude motors, rebuilt Johnson engines, used Mercury engines, and used Yamaha engines.
He does most of the boat system wiring for Gulf Marine of Clearwater. Nguu has worked on boats from the Clearwater area all the way to Hillsborough County, Pasco, Hernando, and even Manatee County. Nguu is the most timely person on our staff. If you hear “Lun-time, lun-time!”, you can bet, it’s high noon!
Nicky did his first job at Gulf Marine of Clearwater when he was 6yrs old – a lemonade stand during a marine rummage sale. Nicky is very mechanically inclined and quick to learn electrical and ignition related systems. Nicky enjoys boating with his friends and family. He often night fishes with other workers, and has suggested we make our own fishing TV reality show, but determined HBO might be the only possible outlet due to the language used when the fish get away.
Nicky helps maintain Gulf Marines web site and online advertising. He focuses on mechanical repairs on Evinrude, Johnson, and Mercury water pumps, as well as small outboard motor repairs. He is working as an apprentice here performing gearcase repairs, tilt and trim repairs, cylinder head gaskets, cooling systems, bilge pump installations, and other outboard engine repairs. He has worked on Evinrude, Johonson, Mercury, Yamaha, and Suzuki outboards.
Nicky is sneaky, a little bit of a weasel, hence his nick-name…Weaz.
